Our Beloved father

Dave is survived by his four children, his mother, his siblings, and his cherished grandchildren, along with a wide circle of friends who were drawn to his warmth, curiosity, and generous spirit.

Dave lived life guided by his own rhythm, dancing to a drum and flute uniquely his, quite literally ones he crafted with his own hands. He was an artist, and his legacy endures in the countless works he created and gifted. Dave loved the spirit of clay, blending it with his own spirit to make offerings of beauty, connection, and meaning. Always for those he loved, and almost as often for those he had only recently met.

Dave was a deeply sensitive and intuitive soul, someone who moved through the world guided more by feeling than force. He led with his heart, trusting his instincts and honoring what felt true rather than what was expected. Sentimental by nature, he held memories, people, and moments with great care, often expressing his love through quiet gestures, thoughtful creations, and meaningful presence. He had a way of inviting others to slow down, listen more closely, and connect more honestly.

In 2000, Dave founded HomeTek, a radon mitigation company, becoming the first radon mitigator in the Salt Lake Valley. Over the next two decades, he built a reputation for excellence, integrity, and deep expertise. By the time he retired in 2020, Dave was widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable professionals in radon testing and mitigation in the region, having earned every certification available to him.

Dave held himself to exceptionally high standards, consistently using superior materials and methods to ensure the systems he installed were not only effective but built to last. More than anything, he believed people always came first. Clients felt this immediately, through his patience, his honesty, and his genuine care. He had a rare gift for balancing kindness with clarity, meeting even the most demanding situations with calm fairness, and gently, but firmly, standing up for what was reasonable and right.

In recent years, Dave found deep purpose in supporting local pollinators, especially the monarch butterfly. He created and lovingly tended a monarch butterfly waystation and nature preserve, offering refuge to these travelers on their long, delicate journey. This land, and the life it sustains, will be protected and maintained in his honor.

Dave's presence was unmistakable. Marked by his big heart, his creativity, and his long, bear hugs that made you feel truly seen. Those hugs will be forever missed by the many lives he touched.

Condolences may be sent to his home.

Please visit below for developing information on Celebrating his Life together this spring, when we gather to plant native milkweed seeds to advance the cause of the monarch butterfly.

My dad and I shared a bond that grew deeper with time. We supported one another through the many seasons of life, often leaning on each other in ways that went beyond the usual father-daughter relationship. He was my steady presence, my sounding board, my safe place.

He left us far too soon. The absence of his voice, his laughter, and especially his long, grounding hugs is something I feel every day. Those hugs had a way of making the world feel quieter and more manageable, as if everything would be okay just because he was there.

I will forever miss the comfort of his presence and the connection we shared. His love shaped who I am, and that love will continue to guide me for the rest of my life.

Dave and I met in the mid 80's when he was moving back to Sandy and he bought a home through my office. We both remarried and our wifes became best friends, we did a lot of things including renting houseboats in Lake Powell. We both divorced about the same time and we started hanging out together. I admired his artistic ceramic ability, he tried to teach me, but it was hopeless. In the mid 1990's we bought into a share of a houseboat in Lake Powell and over a 8 year period we had many trips and introduced many people to the lake. After the selling the house boat share we drifted apart but always remained best friends and got together several times a year for lunch. In fact Dave called me and wanted to meet on my birthday for lunch less then a month ago. We talked for 3 hours going over the past and all the crazy and pranks we pulled on friends and each other. I'm going to miss my friend of over 40 years.

Dave and I became brothers when we were 5 years old and became best buddies right away, I remember Dave, Dean and myself playing in the gully by our house for hours all the time, most of the time Mom had to come and get us and make us get our butts home, as we grew older we went hunting and fishing with dad and had so may great times, I think of all the great things Dave did in life creating his business and his art and pottery, he made me and Debbie a mug fire each of us that we use for our hot chocolate and cappuccino to this day, He installed our radon in our home and we even had a good time doing it, Dave was a great guy to be around no matter what we did, we had a lot of talks about his family and mine I know how much he loved his family and grand kids, I am so sad and will miss him very much, Alisa, Jen, Hillary and Nate I’m so sorry for your loss, Dave I hope your surrounded with all those beautiful butterflies and I hope you’ve met up with the people that moved on before you, Love Richard and Debbie

You didn't have to know Dave long to be treated like a lifelong friend. He signed up for one of my "Saving the Monarchy" classes on monarch butterfly conservation, and the friendship was launched. Monarchs, and nature in general, filled him with the wonder and awe they so deserve. We could have an entire conversation about them after witnessing something special - like a monarch egg in his yard, with just a look. He was one of the kindest, most genuine human beings I have ever met. He commissioned this painting for me a couple of years ago.

To your family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. The world was better with him in it, and I will miss him.

With heartfelt sympathy,
Rachel Taylor

I’m wrapping decades of a dear friendship, mentor, and great love into a few sentences. Dave was a sparkle in the room, a place of peace and calm. He would intrigue my intellect with the wisdom of life that he shared. Teaching me the love of pottery, cherishing my creative side too, letting me gather leaves to embed in my mugs & hand form rather than use a wheel. His knowledge of leather crafts as we made medicine bags created magical moments. There are countless dinner parties, park silly days, concerts at Red Butte, our monthly catch up lunches that hold amazing memories. But, none greater than sitting in his favorite spot near the fireplace sharing for hours. Trusting each others Soul with the depths of what life delivers us. Creating a safe space to land during the storms and relish in the wins. Dave lived his life with purpose, passion & intention. He gave me the gift of being able to experience that with him.

Dave was the best! Over the years of working with him professionally we be came great friends and would talk about all of life on life's terms. His humor and way of looking at a situation as a glass half full vs. a glass half empty topped off with a smart ass joke is one of the things I will miss most in our conversations. He, Shari & John at Hometek have been part of my A team for decades. I am so sad to hear of his death and trust he is off dancing with someone among the butterflies❤️ Peace and hugs to all of the family.

Dad, I loved watching you be a Grandpa! Your grandkids loved playing music with you! I could see all the love for them in your eyes and how you would light up whenever you saw them! You were so proud of them and it showed. I have so many fun memories of lake Powell and boating as a family! Your energy will be with us when we are on the lake forever. I won't ever be able to hear love can build a bridge without hearing your voice singing right along to it, and then the memories come flashing back to me of you on your knees so you could dance with me when I was a little girl and then the fun father daughter dance we shared at my wedding. I will miss you forever. I love you always and all ways!

Taylor and I and the kids were very sad to hear of his passing. He was always very kind to us and made us laugh. He use to tease Taylor and I and tell Taylor, “good luck with Jessica.” ???? Taylor has fond memories of their deer hunting when he was younger. He was a good guy! He will be missed. We send prayers and hugs to your family and our condolences. ❤️

So sad to hear this news… we talked not long ago. His home was one of the most amazing projects… we had the pleasure of knowing Dave on a business level before we built his home. We got very close during the process of rebuilding his beautiful home! Brainstorming and creating all the little details that made it so special. He would tell me a story about his original home and space that meant so much to him that he wanted to put it back exactly the way it was… I would say, don’t you think this is a perfect opportunity to make it better than it was? To make it more yours? Then we would get to work!! Loved every moment with this beautiful creative man!
We will really miss him!!!!
